Climate data

Climate data from any geographic location can be used in the simulations. BSim is delivered with complete Danish climate data. BSim also has a built-in function that allows the user automatically to download and convert ASHRAE climate data to the binary BSim format. The conversion function enables the user to establish his own climate data files e.g. from recorded hourly data.

På denne side:

If you have any climate files in BSim format you would like (and are allowed) to share with other BSim users, please send it to bsim-support@sbi.dk with all the relevant information. The data file will appear in this list as soon as possible.

Climate data files for use in BSim

Below is a table listing the climate data files, which can be used for simulations in BSim. Some data files can be downloaded free of charge and some by contacting Danish Building Research Institute.

1) Data in Danmark.DRY are identical to data in Cph.DRY, thus extended with information about the cloud cover during night and with the wind direction added for all hours. Danmark.DRY or any other climate file containing information about the cloud cover in all hours, must be used when simulating the long-wave radiative heat-exchange to the sky.

*) The * marked data files can be downloaded free of charge and be used for simulations with BSim, but no guarantee can be given regarding the correctness on the content.

Data types:
TRY = Test Reference Year
DRY = Design Reference Year
TMY = Typical Meteorological Year
ART = Some of the data are ARTificially generated
EPW = EnergyPlus weather file

Conversion of climate data for EnergyPlus

If you can not find a climate file for the location you are looking for, try the list of climate data for the EnergyPlus program. You'll find Energy+ weather data on the following web-sites:

The list contains weather data for 1042 locations in the USA, 71 locations in Canada and more than 1000 locations in 100 other countries. These climate data are available as text files, and can be converted automatically to the binary format used in BSim by the command "File | Weather Data | ASHRAE" when tsbi5 is active.

Conversion of synthetic climate data

If you need climate data from other locations than those found in the lists or available from measured data, you can try to use synthetic climate data, i.e. generated from monthly average values of climatic parameters and statistical information on the monthly variations.
